Auction house Sotheby's has announced that it is to hold an exhibition of rare items from its upcoming Arts of the Islamic World sale - including gold objects - later this month.

The display will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Doha, Qatar on March 14th.

Among these is an applique and gold thread-embroidered tent canopy crafted in India in 1790, which is expected to sell for between £30,000 and £40,000 at Sotheby's London auction on April 14th.

An Indian 18-c gold anklet from the 19th century that was worn by the Maharajah of Morvi will also be on show and is expected to fetch a price of between £300,000 and £500,000.

Meanwhile, another piece of jewellery - a 17th century Mughal gold armband that was later set as a brooch by Cartier and is anticipated to attract bids of up to £300,000 - will also be displayed.

"We would welcome anyone with a collecting interest in the field of Islamic art, or simply a desire to see beautiful objects, to come to the exhibition at the Ritz-Carlton," remarked Edward Gibbs of Sotheby's.

Christie's auctioned an Islamic gold bead necklace from the eighth or ninth century for $21,250 (£14,208) in New York in December.
