Two gold rings have brought in sales of over £3.6 million at an auction in Geneva.
The rings were sold yesterday (November 17th) at Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels sale.
Selling for £1.84 million, the Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond Ring is set on a yellow gold mount, while the Magnificent Fancy Vivid Green Diamond Ring is a vibrant green diamond set on a platinum and yellow gold mount. This sold for £1.80 million.
A ruby and diamond necklace from the 19th century was the highest selling item at the auction and sold for over £2.5 million.
The auction's sales surpassed their initial estimate of £17.8 million and reached a total of £21.7 million.
Sotheby's was founded in 1744 by Samuel Baker when he sold the library belonging to Sir John Stanley for a few hundred pounds. There are now more than 100 Sotheby's offices around the world and in 2000, it became the first international auction house to hold auctions on the internet.
