Gold coin donated to African charity

A woman who was inspired by a newspaper series chronicling charitable work being done in a small African nation has donated a gold coin worth $1,000 (£627) to the Bracelet of Hope campaign.
The Guelph Mercury reported that 82-year-old Rhoda Holtz delivered the gold 1967 Krugerrand - which was originally minted as part of efforts to promote gold from South Africa - in person to Dr Anne-Marie Zajdlik.
Dr Zajdlik's Bracelet of Hope campaign operates in the country of Lesotho - which is landlocked by South Africa - and it is thought that the gold coin will pay for eight people to receive treatment for HIV and Aids for 12 months.
Ms Holz decided to donate the coin to the campaign when she saw a news story about the high price of gold.
"I noticed there is an awful lot of help needed. I admired people digging in and doing something about it," she said.
The Bracelet of Hope campaign is a Canadian initiative that works to support female entrepreneurs in Lesotho, as well as antiretroviral treatment at the Tsepong Clinic for people suffering from Aids and HIV.
