Gold ring returned - half a century after being lost

Monday, 11th August 2008 (796 views)
A treasure hunter in Stroudsburg, has found and returned a class ring lost 50 years ago, reports the Pocono Record.

The gold ring was lost in 1958 when a 17-year old Karen Corwin was sledding on Mount Pocono.

Mike Reinheimer was in the area with his metal detector when he discovered the ring, buried four or five inches below the surface.

According to Mr Reinheimer, the ring was still in perfect condition.

He said: "Gold never loses its luster."

After hunting around on the internet with the name of the school, the year of graduated and the remaining initial on the ring - a K - Mr Reinheimer managed to track Mrs Corwin-Davis down.

When she saw it, Mrs Corwin-Davis said: "Oh! I'd forgotten how pretty it was."

The Pocono Mountains are in the north-east of Pennsylvania in the US and the region has a population of around 300,000.
