A gold ring has travelled across borders between states and countries to arrive back in the hands of its owner, according to the Tahlequah Daily Press.
The newspaper said a school student lost his Tahlequah High School class ring in a swimming pool while on holiday in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Austin C Patton said: "My dad told me, right before I got in, 'You better take that ring off so you dont lose it.'"
A year later, Jon Hein from Kentucky was snorkelling in the waters off the coast of Playa del Carmen when he spotted the gold band.
On his return home Mr Hein contacted the Daily Press in hopes of being able to contact the students whose first name was engraved on the ring.
After further investigation, Mr Hein spotted Austin's surname on the ring - which had discoloured slightly - and so the student was reunited with his ring.
Playa del Carmen is in the north east of Mexico and is named after Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patron saint of Cancun.
