Eygptian-inspired gold jewellery to be exhibited

Gold jewellery designer Dhyan Sherri is to exhibit her collection inspired by the ancient Egyptians, reports Vail Daily.

According to the newspaper, the artist takes much of her inspiration from historical symbols sourced across the world, with particular emphasis on Egypt.

In particular, Ms Sherri uses the Egyptian Utchat - a symbol that looks like an eye. The left eye represents the moon and the right the sun.

Ms Sherri said her jewellery is not just inspired by Egypt.

"The way I make my jewellery is very similar to the way ancient Egyptians used to make their jewellery."

She shapes her 22-karat gold pieces through traditional methods of hand, fire and a hammer.

A flame torch is used like a paint brush to create the symbols on her gold pieces which include necklaces, pendants and bracelets.

The best known examples of ancient Egyptian gold come from among the treasures of King Tutankhamun whose tomb was discovered in 1922.

Ms Sherri's jewellery will be on show this weekend at the Karats in Vail show in the town of Vail, Colorado.
