Hong Kong jewellery awards recognise gold designs

Wednesday, 20th February 2008 (3544 views)
The winners of the ninth Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition have been announced ahead of the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show.

Best in Show prizes went to Blaze, a ring and pendant featuring a ball of dark pink gold designed by Law Ka Kin; Star Crown by Leung Hong Lam, a pair of earrings inspired by the solar system and Colourful World, a brooch by Vicki Li.

Colourful World also won the craftsmanship and technology award.

Over 400 entries were received for the competition's Open and Student categories. According to one of its organisers, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, pieces were judged on their "creativity, marketability and wearability".

The student competition was won by Law Pui Yin, a student at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, for a piece named Colour is All Around You.

Best in Show winners will receive a five-day course from the Hiko Mizuno College of Jewellery in Japan. Their pieces will also be displayed at the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show between March 4th and 8th.

Last year's show set a new record for exhibitors, with 2,180 firms from 41 countries in attendance.
