Kilo of gold for 6-yr-old

Tuesday, 12th February 2008 (4539 views)
A six-year-old from India is reportedly among the latest winners to collect a kilo of gold at the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF).

Dubai City Guide reports that Adil Abdulrehman claimed the prize after his ticket was picked out in the Gold Raffle draw, which is organised in conjunction with festival sponsor the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG).

The DGJG is giving away a kilo of gold every day during the festival, with a total of 32 kilos of gold worth 3.5 million United Arab Emirates dirham (AED) - equivalent to around £488,836 - on offer.

To qualify for entry into the draw, shoppers at the DSF must spend at least 500 AED on jewellery at some of the 400 outlets participating in the event.

According to reports, Adil's father Abdulrehman, the general manager of plastics company, had been "overwhelmed" when he found out about his son's gold strike.

"When I got the call saying the coupon bearing Adil's name had been picked as the winning ticket, I simply couldn't believe it," he said.

Since the start of the DSF in 1996, over 600 kilos of gold have been given away in the Gold Raffle.
