'Fashion victory' for yellow gold jewellery

Tuesday, 20th March 2007 (9523 views)
Yellow gold is back in favour in the jewellery market, according to reports from precious metals consultancy GFMS.

Neil Meader, from GFMS, said that the world of fashion is turning towards yellow gold and this will catch on with the mass market following suite very shortly.

This is all part of a move towards demonstrative pieces which is where other materials are incorporated into jewellery so it might not be all bad news for rival whiter metals.

Mr Meader told Mineweb of the new trends in the jewellery market including pearls, rose gold and coloured stones.

He said: "Pearls have cast off their grandmotherly shackles and are being used in a far wider variety of contemporary styles, some of which now use yellow gold as a mount.

"Coloured stones also seem to be gaining in popularity and these often suit a warmer metal tone."

This swing indicates good news for gold producers with Mineweb indicating that it might even have the potential to curb recent weight losses in the western jewellery market.
