Camilla's golden stash

Monday, 26th February 2007 (3761 views)
The Duchess of Cornwall, perhaps better known as Prince Charles' wife Camilla, has received a mountain of luxurious gifts since embarking on her royal duties.

According to the Daily Express, the Duchess of Cornwall has been lavished with various gifts during visits to Arab nations and Clarence House published a list of all the presents following criticism over secrecy by MPs.

Among the items amassed by the Duchess was a gold Arabian sword which comes with its own gold-plated scabbard, presented to Prince Charles and his wife yesterday by the King of Bahrain.

During ten foreign tours undertaken by Charles, Camilla and Prince William over the past three-and-a-half years, a total of 456 gifts have been received which equates to in excess of 1,000 individual objects, the Daily Express reports.

When visiting Saudi Arabia in 2006, Camilla received three parures; one sapphire, one ruby and one emerald. Experts have said just one of these collections of jewellery is worth in the region of £5 million.
