Jewellery could be on the cards for Valentines

Monday, 12th February 2007 (3391 views)
Valentine's Day could see a raft of debonaire and expensive jewellery being lavished upon loved ones, in light of a recent National Retail Federation (NRF) study.

The NRF has reached the conclusion that the average consumer in the US will part with $119.67 (£61.50) this Valentine's Day and men have been found to spend more on their partner than women.

These figures show that just under $20 extra is to be spent this year than 2006 on loved ones and with research by the Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC) showing 18 per cent will purchase jewellery or a watch, this could point to a lot of happy people come February 14th.

However, the figure obtained by the JCOC highlights a decrease of ten per cent from the previous year and Liz Chatelain, president of MVI Marketing, which operates JCOC, told the International Diamond Exchange that this could be because marketing excludes children.

The NRF study put the percentage of men willing to buy jewellery for their Valentine at a higher 27.6 per cent.
