Saint's gold necklace stolen during mass

Monday, 4th December 2006 (3675 views)
One scoundrel has stolen a patron saint's gold necklace while a priest was officiating mass in Cebu City in the Philippines.

While early mass was taking place in the town of Argao near Cebu, a thief broke the glass display case at St. Michael of Archangel's church and stole a 20-carat gold necklace.

The gold necklace was around a statue of the angel, who is Argao's patron saint and belonged to the parish priest Monsignor Jose Montecillo.

He was given the gold necklace 12 years ago upon becoming a Monsignor.

The ornament is valued at approximately £254 and was kept around the angel's neck because this way locals could see it and it would not get misplaced.

However the thief who stole it made off on his bicycle with the necklace which bears the images of Jesus, Santo Nino and Mother of Perpetual Help.
