Simpson sports gold grillz at awards

Tuesday, 22nd August 2006 (4646 views)
Dukes of Hazzard star Jessica Simpson proved she was at the forefront of street fashion at the Teen Choice awards in California recently as she presented the show wearing gold 'grillz'.

The dental ornaments, more commonly seen on rappers and urban music stars, are becoming more and more fashionable among teenagers, particularly in the United States.

Despite prompting complaints from parents that their children are expressing a desire to wear the new must-have accessory, Simpson risked the middle-America backlash by donning the golden tooth caps on stage.

The grillz were first seen on James Bond villain Jaws in the 1977 movie "The Spy Who Loved Me", who had a set of stainless steel teeth that could hack through most things, but they have become more fashion accessory than weapon these days.

Also present at the awards ceremony was ex-husband Nick Lachey, who was presented with an award by Simpson, in one of the evening's more awkward moments, briefly taking the limelight from his estranged wife's dental additions.
