Golden result at Norwich City auction

Monday, 27th June 2005 (10926 views)
Around 300 lots of Geoffrey Watling's possessions were auctioned this weekend, where bidding exceeded all expectations.

The former bankroller of Norwich City FC would have been pleased that the items that attracted the biggest interest were his jewellery collections.

A pair of diamond encrusted chequer board cufflinks sold for £520, despite being valued at £150 while a second pair made of white gold and diamond with the initials GW engraved on them more than doubled their expected price, fetching £620.

Mr Watling's pocket watch sold for £600 and a nine-carat gold signet ring was sold for £280 - it was initially valued at £80.

The auction was initially scheduled to take place the previous weekend but a burglary where thieves stole around 200 lots forced organisers to reschedule.track
