A ten-week long promotion on gold and diamond jewellery is expected to boost sales in Dubai.
Organised by the World Gold Council (WGC), in conjunction with the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG), the promotion offers jewellery buyers the chance to win ten kilos gold and ten carats of solitaire diamonds at more than 350 participating jewellery outlets in Dubai.
Unveiling the promotion, dubbed Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), the DGJG said it expected it to result in sales worth more than 320 million dirhams (£47.9 million).
"In line with our vision to position Dubai as the jewellery destination of the world, we have developed this year's DSS promotional offer to include not just gold jewellery, but diamonds, colour stones and watches as well," Tawhid Abdullah, chairman of the DGJG, told the Khaleej Times.
"Trade growth during the summer has already witnessed a 12 per cent increase compared to the last year and we expect these promotions will further boost the retail sales figures."
Moaz Barakat, the managing director of the WGC for the Middle East, Turkey and Pakistan, added: "The WGC is totally committed in partnering with the DGJG in yet another fantastic gold promotion.
"We expect this promotion to maintain the momentum of the Dubai Shopping Festival 2005 Gold Promotion that yielded a 23 per cent increase in sales for all participating outlets."
