A new survey by the Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC) has shown that gold is a popular metal of choice for this year's Father's Day.
According to the study, fine jewellery and watches are becoming the key gifts for both Father's Day and graduation ceremonies.
This year ten per cent of people plan to buy fine jewellery for their Father's Day gift, with 38 per cent opting for yellow gold.
In addition, white gold also proves popular with over 13 per cent planning to purchase jewellery made from the metal in 2005, compared to nearly 11 per cent last year.
Spending is also up with over half of participants looking to spend up to $300 on a fine jewellery gift, preferring to shop in a national jewellery chain store or a local independent jeweller.
It appears families are making a good choice with jewellery, since 13 per cent of fathers questioned wanted fine jewellery as their ideal gift, but they mainly prefer yellow gold pieces.
