23. INDIA CELEBRATES AKSHAYA TRITIYA MAY 7TH-8TH
In India, nothing contributes to the auspicious element more than buying gold.
Akshaya Tritiya, falling on the third day of the bright half of the lunar month of Vaisakha of the traditional Hindus calendar, is one of the four most auspicious days of the year for Hindus. The world Akshaya, a Sanskrit word, literally means one that never diminishes, and the day is believed to bring good luck and success. Widely celebrated in all parts of India by different sections of society irrespective of their religious faith and social group, the day is particularly considered auspicious for buying long term assets like gold!
On this day, jewellers keep their shops open well into the night to entertain their customers. For the wearer, gold jewellery bought on Akshaya Tritiya is not merely for decoration, but a charm that is believed to protect one through the ups and downs in the coming year.
Traditionally gold has connotations of gold fortune and prosperity and needs no introduction to Indian festivals. It is a crucial part of Indian culture and continues to be symbolic of prosperity, security, purity, heritage, fashion, beauty, success and happiness simultaneously.
