Dior - VICTOIRE DE CASTELLANE

PAGE ONE:
Victoire de Castellane is Artistic Director of Dior Fine Jewellery. In love with jewels from a young age, and influenced by her bejewelled aristocratic family, she designed costume jewellery before joining Christian Dior in 1998 to set up their fine jewellery brand.
"Just because it is real, fine jewellery doesn't have to be boring. For me, it is important that each collection tells a story. For my very first collection for Dior in 1999, for example, I wanted to evoke Monsieur Dior's garden at Milly-La-Foret, a whimsical garden where gold bees gather honey from coral cherries and emerald leaves.

PAGE TWO:
"I like to have fun with jewellery, to play with volumes, keeping the sense of disproportion you have as a child, the way a jewel looks through a child's eyes. I love extreme volumes, either massive, as in my Incroyables and Merveilleuses rings, or tiny, as in my intimate "lingerie-style" Mimoui collection of fine gold chains. I love every colour of gold, white yellow or pink, and the way in which gold becomes part of the body, or can take on the texture of a melted candy. In my Nougat collection, gold even has the colour of honey in Winnie the Pooh.

PAGE THREE:
"Customers always love gold. My Gourmette de Dior, in the style of a gold identity bracelet, has a double message, a hidden inscription on the inside of the plate, and the chain, a classic symbol of love and commitment. My "Oui" ring, in gold script handwriting, is now set with coloured stones. I want jewellery to be extravagant, colourful, fanciful, feminine and sometimes childlike. In 2003 I created my first Coffret de Victoire, a small, exclusive collection of special, crazy, one of a kind pieces aimed at collectors. For me, jewellery, exquisitely hand-crafted, will remain as art forever."
