The overall winner of this year’s competition, themed Kinetic Architecture, is Lané Vorster, who received an international jewellery-oriented travel prize worth R40 000 for her bold neck piece ‘Reflections in Solid Motion’. Adéle Eksteen was the runner up for her dynamic wrist piece ’Bangle Gate’ and received R15 000 to further her design career. Gavin Siti was awarded third prize for his architectural ‘Flower Ring’ and received R10 000.
Stephane Barbeau won R10 000 in the Beyond Jewellery category for his futuristic, reptilian arm piece titled ‘Body Sculpture’. This category encourages designers to pursue adventure, flamboyance and excitement while challenging traditional notions of jewellery. The R10 000 Technical Excellence prize was awarded to designer and manufacturer, Emile Erasmus and Martin Ammann of OROAFRICA (Pty) Ltd. Emile’s outsized cuff named ‘Revovlo’ is a daring statement accessory that departs from the conventional petite size of fashion jewellery. AuDITIONS, in consultation with the winners, allocates prize money towards the cost of tuition or tools and material expenses.
