Queen for a day

Renowned British artist-goldsmith Elizabeth Gage was recently honoured with one of the most challenging and unexpected commissions of her long and illustrious career: two magnificent 18 carat gold crowns, to be worn by bride and groom, at a traditional Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony. The aim was to evoke the sumptuous golden splendour of Byzantium. Working closely with her client, Gage incorporated elephants and grapes, both of personal significance to the bride, into the bridal coronet, while the groom's crown was adorned with crosses and fleurs de lys, alternating with her signature gold beadwork. Says Elizabeth Gage, "Every woman should be crowned by the one she loves."
