LUCIE HESKETT-BREM THE GOLD WEAVER
In her studio overlooking Lake Lucerne, dedicated Swiss goldsmith, Lucie Heskett-Brem, known as the Gold Weaver, spends days making each of her complex gold chains entirely by hand, recreating antique and traditional patterns, and reviving techniques of chain-making used since antiquity. She works in her own 20 carat gold alloy, milling and drawing each gold strand, using its luxurious heavy richness and soft malleability to bring a supple, silky fluidity to each work of art. Lucie explains that she loves the symbolism of chains, the meditative repetition of each individual link. The chain, she says, is a powerful symbol in every culture, signifying the unbreakable bond of love.
