Travel back to the splendour of Byzantium with Gurhan’s agelessly modern handcrafted 24 carat gold creations. Turkish born, New York based, Gurhan is dedicated to preserving and contemporising his Byzantine legacy of ancient goldworking techniques. At first, in his tiny workshop in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, he explored ancient skills that enabled early metalsmiths to achieve a blend of strength and lightness. He even recreates ancient wooden and bone tools to maintain an original hand-touched authenticity, and trains his apprentices from scratch. Yet his jewels, worn by celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston, are light, modern, classically contemporary. Time traveller gold.
